TERAMAT

Control and formulation of sustainable materials based on new digital technologies using electromagnetic interaction with recycled and bio-based plastic materials in the terahertz range.

  • Collaborative project (AEI 2023 call, file AEI‑010500‑2023‑263) focused on using terahertz technology to characterize recycled and bio-based plastic materials.
  • Objective: to explore how electromagnetic interaction can be used to identify composition, degradation levels, and impurities in these materials.
  • The consortium included CEP, MAV, Gaiker, CITSALP, Oimo, and das‑Nano.
  • Budget: approximately €208,536

Project execution period: from 16/05/2023 to 17/04/2024

Phase 1 Results

  • Terahertz systems demonstrated the ability to differentiate recycled polymers where other techniques fail.

  • No conclusive results were obtained for bio-based/biodegradable materials, suggesting the need for further testing.
